Susan Moore, née Calvert, is the older daughter of Reg and Dorothy Calvert. Reg was a pop group
manager and promoter who launched first Radio Sutch and later Radio City on Shivering Sands fort in the Thames Estuary.
The history of both stations can be found here. The story did not end happily. In June 1966
Reg was shot dead by Oliver Smedley, the former chairman of Project Atlanta, a rival offshore radio group. His widow
Dorothy took over the operation of Radio City but, after being taken to court, the station was forced to close down in
February 1967.
Susan has been a regular and welcome correspondent to The Pirate Radio Hall of Fame (you
can see her photos here) and mentioned to us some time ago that she was thinking of
writing a stage play about her parents. In fact it turned out to be two plays and they received their premieres in
October 2009 at Old Windsor Memorial Hall, Old Windsor, Berkshire, where they were performed by The Peters Players.
Susan has very kindly sent us the theatre programme.
