Who's Who in Pop Radio

Punch was a weekly humorous magazine published from 1841 until 2002. Back in the day you would often find copies in your dentist's waiting room.

By coincidence two contributors sent The Pirate Radio Hall of Fame different articles from Punch at around the same time. Here they both are.

The first, from 1966, is about the then recently published book Who's Who in Pop Radio by Peter Alex (see cover, right), which was a guide to all the radio DJs of the time.

The author of the article, Basil Boothroyd, was a long-time contributor to Punch and assistant editor for eighteen years.

He mentions that Radio 390 had just closed down. This happened at the end of November 1966 but the station actually returned to the air after this article was published, on New Year's Eve (see here for details).

Many thanks to Gerry Zierler for providing it.
