Offshore Radio of the Eighties

Medium wave usage

When Radio Caroline reopened for business in 1983 it initially described its wavelength as “319” metres to rhyme with the station name, as had been the norm during the sixties and seventies, but as the eighties progressed stations tended to refer to their broadcast frequencies rather than mentioning the wavelength and, because people now had digital displays on their radios, these were described rather more accurately.
