Caroline studio

The original Caroline studio. Alan says “the current Top 40 rack is at the bottom of the window, above the right-hand turntable. The clock in the middle of the panel, under the mic, is the Bulova quartz clock made famous in the B.U.L.O.V.A time check commercials. Also note the size of the ashtray at the left of the desk. It was the type that you pushed a black knob down and the cigarette end fell down past a pair of flaps into the container below. Cigarettes were very cheap on board and we all smoked too much. I often used to get through about three packs a day! (nervous energy).”

Jerry Leighton in the cubicle. The records were played in from next door by an engineer during the first few months of the station's life.

Four photos of the re-painting of the ship's funnel. Alan says: “The shot (above) shows the passengers sheltered viewing area from the ferry days which became the site of the new studio.”
