Radio Caroline Top 50,
4th July 1964

This chart was noted down by listener Ate Harsta and passed to The Pirate Radio Hall of Fame by Hans Knot. Our grateful thanks to both of them.

There were a couple of gaps in Ate's notes. We have filled one of them with information from a recording. DJ Tom Lodge did not mention number 46 at all. We have used the position in the Melody Maker chart (marked mm) to fill that gap.

On this Saturday afternoon the mv Fredericia, the original Caroline ship, was sailing along the south coast of England on its way to a new anchorage off the Isle of Man where it was to become Radio Caroline North. Radio Atlanta changed its name to Radio Caroline South. For more details of this deal, see here.

* The tracks on the Long Tall Sally EP were: Long Tall Sally, I Call Your Name, Slow Down and Matchbox, all available here.

** The Top Six label issued a series of 6 track EPs during the mid-sixties. Each contained cover versions of recent hits performed by unidentified musicians. The label was a joint project between Australian musician / entrepreneur Bill Wellings and Pye Records. The songs on this particular EP were Juliet, A Little Loving, Someone Someone, My Boy Lollipop, No Particular Place To Go and The Rise And Fall Of Flingel Bunt. The original versions of these were all still in the Caroline Top 50 so it is not surprising that the DJ decided to drop this EP of covers from the countdown show.
