As an electrician, John took photos of some of the technical aspects of the ship. This is the electrical switchboard.

It was possible to light up a fluorescent tube just by holding it near the aerial mast. The 50,000 watts of radiated power would light up the tube, even though it wasn't plugged in. These photos show John and his colleagues playing around with some tubes at night.
